Ambitious plan to double kiwi numbers in the Rimutaka Forest Park

The Conservation Minister Maggie Barry wants there to be so many wild Kiwis in New Zealand that they become the pests - not the stoats.

In announcing plans to double the size of the pest-free kiwi area in the Rimutaka Forest Park, near Wellington, Ms Barry said her ambition was to see the population increase by 2 per cent each year.
