Zuma deploys troops to parliament ahead of annual SoN speech

The South African president Jacob Zuma has deployed more than 400 troops to parliament ahead of his annual State of the Nation.

Opposition parties condemned the decision as a "declaration of war".

While in recent years President Zuma's state of the nation speeches have been marred by chaos in the House, this will be the first time armed forces have been deployed to parliament in South African history - including during apartheid.
