New Zealand has overtaken Australia to become the third biggest exporter of wine to the United States behind only Italy and France.
The total value of New Zealand wine imported into the United States is NZ$579 million.
Philip Gregan, the chief executive at New Zealand Winegrowers, says Marlborough's signature white wine is leading the charge "our sauvignon blanc is acknowledged as the best in the world and US consumers are absolutely responding to that in their droves."
