CYF pinning hopes on new Ministry for Vulnerable Children

From Morning Report, 7:20 am on 30 March 2017

Just days before the launch of Ministry For Vulnerable Children, there are major questions about a lack of resources.

But despite the change being so close, the agency's Chief Social Paul Nixon says they are still analysing data and can't yet say which areas need more social workers.

The resourcing question has been highlighted by a ruling from the Masterton Family Court, which was scathing of the agency's decision not to help two foster parents simply to avoid spending money.

Oranga Tamariki's new Wairarapa Regional Manager Grant Bennett says Child Youth and Family has accepted the service given in this case was inadequate.

He says "It's not the standard service I'd want for families or children in Masterton - or in any area."
