A month's rainfall to fall in just days this week

While Queensland struggles with the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie it could be our turn next.

A complex tropical low is being chased across the Tasman by the remnants of the cyclone - potentially bringing flooding to some places here.

NIWA is forecasting the rain will hit Waikato and bring a month's worth of rain in just a day to some parts.

Chris Brandolino, NIWA's principal forecasting scientist, told Morning Report that by Wednesday night flooding is going to be a "major threat".
