Calls for the the White House press secretary Sean Spicer to resign are pouring in after he declared during this morning's White House briefing that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons during the second world war.

"We didn't use chemical weapons in World War Two. You know, you had somebody as despicable as Hitler, who didn't even sink to using chemical weapons."
His comments made during the Jewish festival of Passover, brought looks of astonishment from journalists, who pointed out that poison gas was used to kill Jews and others in the Holocaust.
Mr Spicer later said he meant Hitler didn't use gas on his own people in the same way Syria is doing.
