China presses leadership claims to protect Antarctic

China is pressing its claims as a global leader on polar climate research and other environmental issues as American support for international cooperation melts away. Marc Lanteigne, who lectures on China and on polar regions at the Centre for Defence and Security Studies at Massey University, says China is aiming to fill the void left by the United States on environmental issues.
