Building regulator faces overhaul after worst performance result

The country's building regulator admits it needs a major overhaul after years scrambling just to react to leaky homes and the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes.

The agency was the worst performing out of all 16 regulatory systems run by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

A Wellington lawyer says for safety's sake, radical change is needed.
