It's all fun and games when the teacher leaves the classroom - sometimes literally. About 600 teachers from around the country headed to Mount Maunganui during the first few days of the school holidays, for the first ever Teachers' Games. The usual sporting suspects were there - Badminton, Basketball, Bowls, Touch Rugby and Netball.
Less conventional sports - Dodgeball, Futsal and Ultimate - were also on offer. Garry Carnachan is the executive director of the NZ Secondary Schools Sports Council, and tells us it's an attempt to re-engage teachers in the joy of sport and being part of a team.
