Airbnb not happy with Queenstown crackdown

From Morning Report, 8:40 am on 9 November 2017

Queenstown Lakes councillors have been accused of having complete disregard for the Kiwi bach culture by clamping down on short-term rentals. The District Council has voted unanimously in favour of restricting short-term letting of homes in many areas to just 28 days a year. Currently homes can be rented out for up to 90 days a year. The plan is subject to public consultation and the private accommodation provider, Airbnb has promised the council a fight if it goes ahead. Airbnb's head of public policy for New Zealand and Australia, Brent Thomas, wants to sit down with councillors. Long-term Airbnb Queenstown host Patrick Dodson and the council's housing affordability taskforce boss John McDonald join us to discuss the issue.
