Today marks one year since the devastating November 14th earthquake hit North Canterbury. Striking just two minutes after midnight, the seven-point-eight magnitude quake was centered near Waiau, at a depth of 15 kilometres.
It claimed the lives of two people - Louis Edgar of Kaikōura and Jo-Anne Mackinnon of Mt Lyford and caused billions of dollars of damage. One million tonnes of rubble - 85 different landslides - came down onto State Highway 1 and the railway network between Picton and Christchurch.
The quake shunted the South Island five metres closer to the North and pushed up the Kaikōura coastline. RNZ reporter Maja Burry has been talking to people in North Canterbury.
