Woman saves disabled neighbour from fatal Dunedin fire

From Morning Report, 8:35 am on 23 January 2018

A fatal house fire in South Dunedin is still under police guard this morning as neighbours come to terms with the tragedy on their street. Mel Ryall was one of the first on the scene, her stepson alerted the fire department to the blaze. She says she acted on instinct when she helped a disabled neighbour to safety and woke others up seconds before the heat from the fire smashed one of their windows. The two victims have not been named yet but the police are expected to hold a media conference later this morning. The public have been asked to help by reporting any suspicious behaviour they may have seen in the area at the time the fire started.
