Nelson-Tasman prepares for storm

From Morning Report, 6:15 am on 1 February 2018

A severe weather warning is in place for most of the country as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Fehi reach New Zealand. Nelson-Tasman Civil Defence started warning campers late yesterday to move away from river mouths and camp sites near the sea. Local controller Roger Ball says the storm is forecast to hit the Nelson-Tasman region on Thursday. He says waves from three to five metres are predicted around the Nelson City area, coinciding with king tides around midday. Mr Ball told RNZ Nelson reporter Tracy Neal low lying areas will be at particular risk of storm surge and erosion.
