Ex-cyclone Fehi hits: West Coast braces for storm damage

From Morning Report, 7:17 am on 1 February 2018

It's been a week of weather extremes, and the deep south is bearing the brunt of it. On Tuesday drought was declared in Southland, while last night the region was preparing for flooding. A severe weather warning is in place for most of the country as the remnants of tropical cyclone Fehi hit the coasts. Southland activated its emergency coordination centre as the dry spell finally broke. Angus McKay Kay says the swift shift between events could add to the problem. RNZ reporter Conan Young is in Greymouth and describes the scene to Susie Ferguson.
