Gita: Nelson-Tasman worst hit by wind, rain

The Nelson-Tasman region has been amongst the worst-hit areas of New Zealand as ex-cyclone Gita swept over the country. The state of emergency remains in place on Wednesday morning. RNZ reporter Tracy Neal tells Susie Ferguson the Takaka Hill road damage is significant - with large slips and large chunks of road washed away. About 1000 stranded tourists may be evacuated by boat, she says.
