Sex offenders' placements checked after 11 near school

From Morning Report, 6:14 am on 16 March 2018

Corrections officials are urgently checking the location of more than 200 high risk offenders to ensure they're not living too close to schools. The department announced a nationwide review after it was discovered 11 convicted child sex-offenders were living less than a kilometre away from a South Auckland school. The men have now been moved out of two Otahuhu boarding houses. Corrections' regional commissioner, Jeanette Burns told RNZ reporter Sally Murphy the department realised the former prisoners couldn't stay living where they were.
