Former US President Barack Obama arrives in New Zealand on Wednesday and will hold a private meeting with the Prime Minister but won't be holding any media engagements.

He'll attend an invitation-only event hosted by the New Zealand-United States Council, with a hand-picked audience of around 800 people.

The council's chairman Leon Grice tells Susie Ferguson Mr Obama will spend some private time outside Auckland, but couldn't say where.
