Nicolas Sarkozy in police custody over election claims

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy is in police custody amid accusations he received 50 million euros for his 2007 election campaign from the late Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar Gadaffi. The case also involves a former minister who has been questioned, and a former aide who is fighting extradition to France. Police have been investigating alleged financial irregularities in the 2007 political campaign. Hugh Schofield is in Paris, and tells us Mr Sarkozy may appear before a judge but has not yet been charged.
