Oil permits process under scrutiny for carbon-free NZ future

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern sparked confusion on Monday when she recieved a petition from Greenpeace calling for the end of oil exploration - which she said she was "actively considering". Since then she's clarified her comments and said they were to do with the government considering the future of the Block Offer - an annual auction to tender out potential areas of New Zealand for oil exploration. But her comments have opened up the debate about how the government will start the full transition away from fossil fuels.
