Pasifika ECE services struggling for fluent teachers

English-language rules are strangling the supply of early childhood teachers who speak Pasifika languages, threatening the future of Pasifika early childhood centres. Sector leaders say people who have moved to New Zealand from the Pacific are failing to get into teacher training courses because the level of English required for entry since 2011 is too high. They say a different standard is needed. Our education correspondent, John Gerritsen, filed this report.
