Māori teen begs for prison transfer after year in isolation

A Māori teenager who is beginning his 340th day in isolation in an Australian young offenders facility is so desperate for human contact he's applied to be transferred to an adult prison. Jason Rewiti, who's 18, was put into solitary confinement after a riot at Perth's Banksia Hill juvenile detention centre along with several others, who have since been released. His mother, Kylee Douglas, makes a 12-hour round trip for a half hour visit with him every few weeks. She told our reporter Ruth Hill his ordeal began on the night of the riot in May last year
