Nelson teen urges govt to save youth mental health service

From Morning Report, 6:12 am on 1 May 2018

A Nelson teenager who says the region's youth mental health service possibly saved her life, is petitioning the government to keep it running 24-7. The Nelson-Marlborough District Health Board is planning to axe the after-hours part of its Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service or CAMHS as it's known, and move it to the adult crisis team. Seventeen-year-old Zoe Palmer says that won't work for young people. The petition she plans to send to the DHB, Health Minister David Clark and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, is now just shy of 2000 signatures. She talked to RNZ Nelson reporter Tracy Neal about her own experience at a crucial point in her life, dealing with post-traumatic stress.
