Waikeria prison 'uninhabitable' - campaigners

From Morning Report, 7:39 am on 4 May 2018

A group campaigning for an overhaul of the criminal justice system says the latest report into the state of Waikato's aging Waikeria Prison proves it's uninhabitable. The prison - one of the country's oldest - can house up to 740 inmates and at the time of the inspection last year had 713. About half its inmates are gang members - a third are Mongrel Mob - and the prison inspectorate report says gang rivalries are the main causes of violence.
