National MPs in stand-off with Speaker of House

From Morning Report, 8:26 am on 25 May 2018

It's been a feisty week in Parliament with escalating tensions between National Party MPs and the Speaker of the House, Trevor Mallard. On Thursday Mr Mallard ordered National's deputy leader Paula Bennett from the House after a series of confrontations with members of the opposition. It's not the first time opposition MPs have clashed with Parliament's Speaker. Mr Mallard was the worst offender in his day, having been kicked out nine times in six years - perhaps most-notably for telling then-speaker David Carter to sit down in 2013.
