Australian lawyer appalled NZ child held in detention centre

A boy is the latest New Zealander to be locked up in an Australian detention centre for an apparent breach of his visa. Australian authorities have refused to give RNZ more details, but it's understood he's aged under 18 and is being held with another teenager in a detention centre in Melbourne. Australian lawyer Greg Barns has represented immigration detainees - he told RNZ reporter Edward Gay locking up a boy because he's in breach of his visa is a new low for his country.
