ECE centres crowded, noisy, cold, researchers warn

From Morning Report, 6:15 am on 11 June 2018

Researchers are warning that many early childhood centres are crowded, noisy and cold because the minimum requirements are too low. Pre-schools must have at least 2-and-a-half square metres per child indoors and five square metres outdoors. University of Otago PhD student Mike Bedford has 35 years experience in public health, he says the space requirements are among the worst in the OECD. He also told RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen the temperature requirements are also inadequate.
