Ministry apologises after woman's benefit cut

From Morning Report, 6:19 am on 12 June 2018

The Ministry of Social Development has apologised to a woman whose benefit was wrongly suspended, not once but twice. In April, the Auckland solo mother of three was wrongly told her benefit had been cut because she had been on two Tinder dates. At the time, the ministry described it as a one-off. But, her benefit was suspended a second time because the ministry didn't immediately contact the woman after she told them about a change in circumstances. The ministry's group general manager of client service delivery Kay Read told RNZ reporter Sarah Robson she couldn't be more sorry.
