President Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Tuesday. The two had a 41-minute one-on-one discussion and then had wider talks with aides at a historic meeting in Singapore. They were the first sitting US president and North Korean leader to meet, and their talks have been hailed as a public relations success for both. Mr Trump said the meeting went better than anyone could have expected, and heaped praise on Kim Jong-un saying he would likely invite him to the White House. The two leaders are pledging the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and they signed a a joint statement promising to work towards that goal. But they gave few details on how exactly it will be achieved. The North Koreans have agreed to the recovery of the remains of US military personnel missing in action and presumed killed during the Korean War. And in a surprise move Mr Trump said the US will stop joint military exercises with South Korea and that one day he wanted American soliders to exit the Korean peninsular entirely.
