Scott Donaldson completes first trans-Tasman kayak crossing

After two months of paddling, Scott Donaldson has became the first person to make a solo crossing of the Tasman in a kayak. It was a case of second time lucky for the Australian-based New Zealander - his first attempt in 2014 ended in failure just 80 kilometres short of the Taranaki coast. A crowd of around 500 people was at Port Taranaki to welcome him ashore just before nine last night and the 47-year-old told a news conference it was almost a bit much for him to deal with.
