Free speech or hate speech? Massey Vice-Chancellor comments
In the wake of controversy over a cancelled visit to Auckland by two right-wing Canadians, the debate over free speech has reignited. An advocacy group launched legal action yesterday against Auckland Mayor Phil Goff and his council for denying a venue for the two speakers. The dispute prompted the Vice-Chancellor of Massey University, Professor Jan Thomas, to publish an opinion on the difference between free speech and hate speech. She talks to Philippa Tolley.
