Ngāpuhi Treaty deadlock shows no sign of breaking

From Morning Report, 6:47 am on 13 August 2018

The deadlock over Ngāpuhi's treaty negotiations shows no sign of breaking - with people leaving a series of hui over the weekend frustrated and without resolution. The Treaty Settlements Minister Andrew Little has been meeting hapu in Northland in an attempt to persuade them to allow a new structure to negotiate their long-awaited settlement. But Pita Tipene, who co-chairs the hapu alliance Te Kotahitanga, says the attendees roundly rejected Mr Little's proposal. RNZ political reporter Craig McCulloch spoke to Mr Tipene last night and began by asking him whether the weekend's hui had brought the dispute any closer to a resolution.
