Gisborne councillor in hot water over RNZ interview

From Morning Report, 7:53 am on 20 August 2018

A Gisborne councillor appears to be in trouble with the deputy mayor after calling out another councillor over racist comments she overhead at a meeting. Meredith Akuhata-Brown says she heard two of her colleagues say that not enough Māori had been killed during early encounters with James Cook. She laid a complaint with the council but yesterday told RNZ in an interview the apology she got from one of councillors was completely inadequate. The deputy mayor Rehette Stoltz has now called her to a meeting this afternoon to explain why she spoke to RNZ. Ms Akuhata Brown said she couldn't talk to Morning Report but in her earlier interview with RNZ's Katie Doyle, she said she wasn't impressed by the apology she received.
