Dozens of homes damaged in Taranaki tornado

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 21 August 2018

Police say it was lucky no one was injured by a tornado that ripped through several blocks in New Plymouth last night. As many as thirty homes were damaged when it struck about 5:30pm. A small tornado also hit Ōhope in the Bay of Plenty lifting the roofs off six houses. In New Plymouth Belt Road resident Tom McElroy said there was little warning. RNZ Taranaki reporter Robin Martin was on the streets soon after the tornado struck and is back out there this morning.
