Tongue-tie surgery on babies 'potentially dangerous'

A common practice of cutting tongue-tied babies is being labelled painful, frequently unnecessary and potentially dangerous. Thousands of newborns are thought to have the surgery every year and complications are common. It's supposed to help babies who have trouble breastfeeding and is often carried out not by surgeons but by midwives, GPs and even dentists.
