Planning rules need overhaul to help housing - Bridges

From Morning Report, 7:40 am on 21 January 2019

Simon Bridges says the failure of successive governments to overhaul planning rules has put homes beyond the means of most people. The annual Demographia International Housing Affordability released today shows New Zealand continued to be one of the most unaffordable countries in the world to buy a house, with the average price more than six times the median household income. Of the eight New Zealand markets the study looked at, all of them were considered severly unaffordable. Guyon Espiner speaks to leader of the National Party Simon Bridges who says the main driver of house prices is the lack of land for new homes.
