School year begins as more teacher strikes loom

Schools begin to reopen next week under the threat of industrial action by both primary and secondary teachers. That's despite direct talks between the primary teachers union and the Education Minister, Chris Hipkins, over the holidays in an attempt to resolve the deadlock that last year resulted in two strikes by teachers and principals. The teacher unions want the government to come up with a better deal, but Mr Hipkins says there is no more money in the pot. Here's our education correspondent, John Gerritsen.
