Nelson fire: Dampening hot spots 'a long slog'

From Morning Report, 7:19 am on 12 February 2019

There's been some light rain in Nelson overnight but so far not on the Tasman fire that has now been burning eight days. About 2,500 residents of Wakefield in Tasman were able to return to their homes yesterday but they will have to remain ready to evacuate for days, if not weeks. People living in valley areas south of the town don't yet have the all clear to return. Susie Ferguson speaks to Fire Emergency New Zealand's fire controller Trevor Mitchell. He says they need a good dollop of rain to help get all the fire's hotspots under control.
