Developer waiting a year for AKL Council's air base noise rules

A developer says he's ready to lay the groundwork for hundreds of new homes but he's having to wait at least a year while the Auckalnd Council sets rules about noise from the Defence Force air base at Whenuapai. The West Auckland town is one of the key areas pegged for new housing development to try to fight the shortage in Auckland. But new builds in one zone, which allows for more than 6,000 homes, have been delayed while the council sorts out how the possible noise problem. Cabra Developments says it was ready to go with a large subdivision. Its development manager Duncan Unsworth told RNZ reporter Rowan Quinn the delay is frustrating.
