Hanmer Springs goes smokefree in trial

Hanmer Springs in north Canterbury is going smokefree for six months, starting Thursday.

In a New Zealand first, public property in the town centre will be smoke and vape free, including on footpaths, roads, and in public parks.. Businesses will still be able to have outdoor smoking areas.

The joint venture between Hanmer Springs Community Board, Hurunui District Council and the Cancer Society will start as a six-month trial.
