Environmentalists welcome end of tenure review

The sale of South Island high country leasehold land to farmers is being scrapped. More than 350,000 hectares of publicly owned high country land has been sold off under the tenure review policy. Critics say this led to more intensive farming or the land being onsold for massive profit to property developers or foreign millionaires. The Minister of Agriculture Damien O'Connor says getting rid of the policy is a good move. The 30 farmers now going through the process will still have their cases considered on a case by case basis. Canterbury University environmental scientist Ann Brower wrote the book Who Owns the High Country? She's said for years the process is broken. She talks to Susie Ferguson.
