Caution urged on taxing Facebook, Google, Uber

From Morning Report, 8:14 am on 19 February 2019

The government is being warned it should move ahead with a tax on companies such as Facebook, Uber and Google only if other countries do the same. A proposal to tax multinationals making money out of online services in this country was announced on Monday. Tax specialist Geof Nightingale says that as a small trade-exposed nation, New Zealand needs to move cautiously. Mr Nightingale is a PWC tax partner and member of the Tax Working Group which will report back on Thursday.
