Great Barrier islanders take waste woes to court

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 12 March 2019

Great Barrier islanders are going to the High Court to stop millions of cubic metres of waste from Auckland and Waikato developments - including the Americas Cup Village - being dumped off its coastline. Two groups are appealing against an Environmental Protection Agency consent allowing 250,000 cubic metres of dredged material a year to be dumped 25 kilometres off the island's coast. Kelly Klink, who belongs to Ngati Rehua Ngatiwai ki Aotea, is one of the people appealing and tells Rowan Quinn the waste will ruin traditional hapuka fishing grounds and wash back on to wahi tapu.
