Christchurch mosque shootings: One week on

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 22 March 2019

One week on from the Christchurch massacre which killed 50 Muslims at Friday prayers, the dead are still being buried and the type of weapons used by the gunman have been banned. Today thousands of people are pledging to form human chains outside mosques. There will be two minutes of silence after the Muslim call to prayer is broadcast at 1:30pm. The Prime Minister will be in Hagley Park for the commemoration. Schools students everywhere are planning to dress in bright colours, to show vibrancy and support for the Muslim community. Many women intend to wear head-scarves. There has been outpouring of grief and shock across the country over the past few days with tens of thousands of people attending vigils. This is how the week unfolded.
