Death by stoning for gay sex, abortion in 'barbaric' Brunei

From Morning Report, 8:35 am on 4 April 2019

The organisation Human Rights Watch says the Brunei government's new penal code introduced today is barbaric, archaic and poses grave threats to basic rights, especially for the most vulnerable. The new law requires death by stoning for extramarital sex, gay sex, and abortion; amputation of limbs for stealing; and 100 lashes with a whip and up to ten years imprisonment for lesbian sex. Susie Ferguson speaks to Neela Ghoshan from Human Rights Watch who says this law change has been on the cards for a while.
