Wastewater tests reveal NZ's drug use

Testing of wastewater has revealed New Zealanders consume an average of 16 kilograms of methamphetamine each week. Police have released the first results from the National Wastewater Testing Programme which sampled our sewage between November 2018 to January 2019. While meth is the most commonly detected illicit drug nationwide, MDMA is most prevalent in Canterbury and cocaine is more popular in Auckland.
