The co-chair of the New Zealand Maori Council, Maanu Paul, is urging hapu to speak up for the council at a series of hui on its future; The Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta says iwi are more focused these days on controlling the use of freshwater, than on owning it; An Alaska native-owned corporation will speak at a Maori conference next week about its successful involvement in the oil, gas and mining industries; A Te Arawa-Mataatua composer and her late husband who've dedicated their lives to the Maori arts, are among three recipients for this year's National Waiata Maori music awards.
