The Porirua tribe of Ngati Toa is threatening to pull out of a trans-Tasman project to construct Maori totem poles in a New South Wales park, if the concerns of the local aboriginal community aren't addressed; The soon-to-open Ngai Tuhoe headquarters has received a grant of more than 200-thousand dollars to set up a tribal archival centre; Ngati Koroki Kahukura has told the Maori Affairs Select Committee that it wants to review arrangements for Maungatautari in its treaty settlement; Ngati Kahungunu is supporting the government's move to set up a Maori language research centre.
