Young Fathers are a Scottish trio who entered the public eye after their surprise Mercury Prize win in 2014. Their winning album ‘Dead’ combined hip hop, soul, rock, and tribal influences into a singular musical stew that had critics grasping for comparisons. The band followed that up with the controversially-titled ‘White Men Are Black Men Too’, and were booked to play the Echo Festival in New Zealand prior to its cancellation.
Tony Stamp caught up with Graham Hastings, one third of the band’s vocal onslaught, at the site of a last-minute replacement gig, Auckland’s Cassette #9.
