RNZ Music is livestreaming the 2018 Taite Music Prize

Aldous Harding and Nadia Reid are among this year's finalists for the prestigious Taite Music Prize, which is being presented on Tuesday, April 17. RNZ Music is streaming the ceremony live.

RNZ Music and Independent Music New Zealand are bringing you the 2018 Taite Music Prize live. The award – whose previous winners include Lorde, Ladi6 and SJD, acknowledges outstanding creativity in an album. 

The ceremony takes place from 7pm on Tuesday, April 17, and you can watch it all at rnz.co.nz/music.

This year’s finalists are:

  • Aldous Harding
  • Nadia Reid
  • TEEKS
  • Fazerdaze
  • Grayson Gilmour
  • Kane Strang
  • Mermaidens
  • The Bads

The ceremony will be hosted by RNZ Music’s very own Alex Behan, and there’ll be special musical performances throughout the show.

Also on the night, the Headless Chickens will be accepting the Classic Album award for their groundbreaking 1988 record Stunt Clown.

The Taite Music Prize recognises outstanding creativity in an album. It’s named after iconic New Zealand music journalist, the late Dylan Taite.

Alongside the main prize and the Classic Record Award, the Best Independent Debut award will be presented. on the night. Finalists include:

  • Kendall Elise - I Didn’t Stand A Chance
  • L.A.B. - L.A.B.
  • Strangely Arousing - Strangely Arousing
  • Daniel McClelland - Anxious Heart
  • The Miltones - The Miltones
