Whether you're excited about the new government's first budget, or you're sick of hearing about it, the RNZ Music team have put together a playlist of Kiwi songs to help get you through the day.

12. The Knobz - 'Culture?' (1980)

Dunedin band The Knobs wrote their 1980 hit 'Culture?' in response to Robert Muldoon's refusal to lift a 40% sales tax on recorded music.

A classic local tune about being on the dole.

4. Sonny Day - Savin' Up (1985)

A cover of a song written by Bruce Springsteen. The video was shot in Auckland's Vulcan Lane and well-known nightspot The Birdcage.
